With the holiday season and that pesky year end among us, it’s easy to get carried away with gift giving, wrapping up client projects, and planning for the year ahead. Yes, it’s the season of thinking about everyone else! Does this sound like you? If so, then let’s talk about what you can do to treat yourself as a business owner. I’m not talking spa days and vacations to Bali (while yes, those are amazing and you should do that too), I’m talking about treats for yourself and your company.
Depending on your industry, it might make sense to take the end of the year to think about how you can invest in yourself as a business owner and your business as a whole. What are some things you’ve wanted to do or explore but haven’t had time? Those are “treats” you should think about. Reflect As with any changes you’re looking to make, it’s important to first stop and reflect on the year. What things did you do well? What were some areas where you struggled? Think of things that were a total waste of time and think of areas where you could use some help. Write it all down, place sticky notes all over the wall, be honest, and dream big! Now is your chance to go into 2017 with a strong start, so don’t hold back. Also, take this time to congratulate yourself for everything you’ve done this year. You’re a business owner! That’s a huge accomplishment. Make a plan for you With a good picture of your year, you can now start to think about what will help you in 2017. Take that webinar you’ve always wanted to take, sign up for your dream conference, maybe even take a course or buy a book list for self-development. If you’ve noticed that there are areas you really wish you could improve, or things you could do yourself to boost your confidence and happiness, don’t be afraid to do it. Make a plan for your business As much as it can be exciting to great a development plan for yourself, it can also be exciting to think about what you can do for your business. Maybe 2017 is the year you invest in that program that will make your processes a lot easier, or that automation system that will make your employees excited for the New Year. While things are winding down, it’s also a good time to look back on your year and make sure your business objectives and goals line up. Do a branding check-up and make sure your website still reflects everything you’re about. Maybe the New Year treat is hiring a content writer! Get your Facebook page ramped up (for free!). Get a list together of your awesome customers and make a plan to get testimonials. Have you wanted to invest in user experience testing? Next year is a great time to start. Think of all the things you’d like to revamp for your business, whether it’s the entire business plan, some new graphics and social media artwork, a contest or email campaign – get excited for all of the things you can accomplish. Make a budget and choose some things you’re willing to splurge on. After all, you deserve it!
